How it Works?
Laser
Eye Surgery is the process which many people choose over wearing glasses or
contact lenses, but many don’t know the process, advantages, disadvantages and
the side effects after this procedure. Lasik and Lasek are two different laser
eye surgery procedures but the most common and popular procedure is Lasik
because it is more comfortable and less longer than Lasek. The recovery time
after having Lasik is far less than Lasek since to recover from a Lasek
procedure, it may take over a week whereas people could be doing their regular
activities within a time span of 48 hours. Hence the Lasik procedure is more
common than the Lasek procedure.
One
of the major differences between a Lasik procedure and a Lasek procedure is
that during the Lasik procedure, a flap is created. The flap is made of the outer
transparent part of the eye; which is called the cornea, and before the laser
is applied, the flap is separated from the surface of the eye. Intralase
describes how the flap is created during the Lasik procedure. During the
standard Lasik, the flap is created by using a microkeratome; which is a
surgical blade, while a laser is used during Intralase. In most cases, Intralase
is often considered to be a more exact and safer procedure than standard Lasik
because no blade is used during the procedure unlike the standard Lasik
procedure. People find Intralase as a better procedure since no blade is being
used.
Both
Lasik and Lasek have Wavefront which describes the way the laser is applied.
Wavefront is more of an accurate eye surgery compared to a standard Lasik or
Lasek procedure. In this procedure, many measurements are taken across the
cornea while only a few are taken during the standard Lasik procedure. The chances
of the vision you achieve after the Wavefront procedure are 20:20 which is much
better than the standard Lasik procedure.
During
the actual laser surgery, the cornea is reshaped depending on your prescription
and the vision is also blurred due to one major reason which leads to two
different ones. The retina at the back of the eye is affected by the light
entering the eye does not focus properly which leads to a blurry vision. The
vision is also affected whether you are long sighted or short sighted, and
these two different sights have different effects on the vision during the
laser eye surgery. The light slips back of the retina if you are long sighted
while the opposite happens if you are short sighted. When the light is focused on
the retina, chances are that you will have a 20:20 vision and will not need
lenses or glasses.
